Mira Nair, Director of The Namesake. …in the Q&A following the film, Nair noted that she learned about shooting her airport scenes through a book by the legendary (and late) Garry Winogrand: Arrivals & Departures.

For the past 2+ years I’ve been photographing guest speakers at my local gem-of-an-art-house movie theatre, The Avon. Among the visitors have been director Wim Wenders, shown here, along with Gene Wilder, Paul Dano (from Little Miss Sunshine), Arthur Penn (Director of Little Big Man and Bonnie & Clyde) and George Stevens, Jr., founder of the American Film Institute. From 2004 through 2006 I documented the construction of The Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, using an old digital camera connected to a machine which tripped the shutter 4 times every day — view a 20 second version of the movie here.
